FAQ

What is enteral nutrition?

Enteral nutrition (EN) refers to the delivery of nutrients directly into the gastrointestinal (GI) tract through a feeding tube when a person cannot consume food orally. This method ensures the body receives the essential nutrition needed to support growth, health and recovery. The feeding tube maybe inserted into the stomach or the small intestine, depending on the individual’s condition. Your healthcare provider will determine the most suitable feeding approach tailored to your specific needs.

What type of enteral feeding tubes does danumed offer?

We provide a range of enteral feeding tubes designed for placement in the stomach, including low-profile Gastrostomy Buttons and standard (traditional length) feeding tubes, so-called GastroTubes.

What is the difference between low-profile and traditional length feeding tubes?

Low-profile feeding tubes are also called gastrostomy buttons. Buttons, like our danuButton®, are shorter and sit flush against the skin, making them less noticeable and more discreet. They are easy to conceal under clothing, offering greater comfort and freedom of movement. For feeding or administering medication, a gastrostomy button always requires an external extension set. Traditional length feeding tubes, also known as GastroTubes, feature external tubing that usually extends about 10cm from the stoma site and remains visible. These feeding tubes include an adjustable external retention plate. The danumed® GastroTube is equipped with the 90° danuPlate, an external bolster that angles the feeding tube at approx. 90°, offering improved discretion and comfort. Both types of feeding tubes are effective, but the choice often depends on patient preference, comfort, and activity level.
